While the rest of the world awaits New Year’s Eve parties, in Miami Beach no lull exists, as holiday parties continue unabated. With the influx of vacationing New Yorkers, things are buzzing. Soho House Miami Beach hosted a party promoting an upcoming luxury condominium development in Hollywood Beach, Costa Hollywood Condo. Guests enjoyed cooling ocean breezes while indulging cocktails and paella around the pool and lawn of Soho.
Costa Hollywood is one of the first luxury developments right on the beach in Hollywood, a welcome modernization of the area. Hollywood Beach has excellent structure, with a wide sidewalk paralleling the beach and restaurants, plus quaint walkable city streets running perpendicular into the beach. But Hollywood’s “better days” were in its main development in the 1970’s and 80’s, so many of the restaurants, hotels, and residences require upgrades to become attractive to younger visitors. Let’s hope this is the beginning of more developments in Hollywood Beach.
After the Soho party, some of the guests boarded a mini-ferry at the Eden Roc Hotel, and headed across Indian Creek to a New Year’s Eve “warm-up” party at one of Miami Beach’s mediterranean mansions, Villa Vecchia. The band played rocking renditions of recent pop hits such as Royals, while select food trucks served up funky bites. Like the Christmas tree towering to the twenty-foot ceiling, the event was grander than normal. If this is the warm-up, I can’t wait to see the real deal on New Year’s at Villa Vecchia.
